gauze coverlet care guide
washing & drying
gauze pure linen coverlet
this item is a fine hand loomed double layered pure linen bedcover. it is a very large piece with double layers of pure gauzy flax and pick stitching.
on initial washes it may shed natural residual lint. lint occurs with pure linen /flax products, some more than others and can be dependent on the yarn gauge, weave, the size of item and number of layers in the weave of the item.
the smaller the item the less lint, the larger the item more lint it may shed. this is not a quality issue but inherent in pure flax products.
to assist with reducing any linting, we recommend washing and then dry the item in the dryer to washing temperature at 30 degrees on a mid-range cycle.
tumble dry on low to medium heat until dry but not on a hot setting. dryers are often used to help reduce bath towel lint for example. hot settings dehydrate textiles which can be make fibers brittle and be damaging. ensure your lint filter is cleared after each wash and dry.
the lint will subside and with further laundering and your item will settle in.
regarding laundry detergents to use, we suggest avoiding liquid detergents that list “ natural oils” as this can cause fine lint to stick to the textile and become difficult to remove. do not directly apply detergents onto item, ensure the laundry detergent is fully dissolved. when lint sticks to textiles it can appear as pilling.
we do not recommend, shaking, scraping or rubbing the item, this may damage the item. a lint brush may assist with surface lint removal.
the two layers are held together with fine pick stitching and shaking or rubbing may break the stitching and or yarns.
